Blogs Start Job Boards
Sites like GigaOm and TechCrunch are rushing to list help-wanted ads, but is there room for all? So far, there are job boards at 37signals, GigaOM, TechCrunch, and paidContent, four of leading tech sites.
On Friday, GigaOm, the blogging network started by former Business 2.0 writer Om Malik, launched its own job board. The board, which charges $200 per listing, plans to make itself the destination for job listings from telecommunications, broadband, and networking companies, particularly for positions at the managerial levels.
Job listings have become a lucrative source of revenue for blogmasters. 37 Signals’ industry job board has generated $100,000 in revenue so far, said Mr. Fried.
37 Signals charges $250 for a 30-day listing on its board. Compare that to $75 for a Craigslist job posting. Market leader Monster.com costs $400 a listing, but for a 60-day period.
TechCrunch, which has had a head start over GigaOm, rakes in anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 a day. A job listing on the board costs $200 for 30 days.
