MySpace Music Player Hacked

MySpace MP3 Gopher is a Windows program requiring no installation, and for those not on a Windows box the author offers an online version that anyone can run. All you need to grab a MySpace song is its "friendID," which is in every URL as a parameter.

Well, my best friend is an independent musician making her sole living from her music. This is just another form of stealing - and bad karma!

I dont see it as horrid. And I play. Thing is they only put 4 songs up their. If you like the band enough. You will buy the CD to listen to the other stuff. Theirs to many bands as is now anyways. Thats the record lables fault. The good ones are still gonna make money. Which is how it should be. If their good enough to be constant. And draw people via concerts and other stuff. My only problem is does it effect users just wanting to listen. If so than its messed up.

Theirs a other real easy way to get the music you want. One is just. If you have a recorder for your music, like Cakewalk or Acid. Just set your computer on record all. While you play the stream or even on AOL or XM radieo. And you can mix it at top level. So you dont loose any sound quality. And its set to record whatever it hears. And its not analog like some think. Its srait threw direct.

i dont think its wrong at all. they upload it on2 myspace, so we can listen 2 it. we're downloading it from myspace, so we can listen 2 it. both methods are exactly the same, only 1 means we dont have 2 go thru the hassle of goin on their myspace profile and wait fuckin ages for it 2 load up b4 it plays. and its not like they dont want us 2 listen 2 it, coz they wudnt upload it 2 their profiles if they didnt - infact they wudnt even hav profiles. Think of this as promotion.. haha

Do what you want but don't feed us fakey reasoning BS...

Listening is different from keeping. This is a Ripper, not a player. By uploading his/her shite, it's obvious the artist is agreeing to allow listening, not keeping. Just because the listener doesn't like method of delivery from the service, doesn't mean he/she can circumvent it and ignore what the artist has agreed to occuring. If the artist wanted to provide distributable/keepable copy he would use anything as simple as an FTP or proper filesharing solution in the 1st place.

Stop coping out with BS excuses obscuring the fact and just finally admit you don't like to pay for or listen to shite you can rip for your personal use or sharing purposes.

It's just mp3s people, get over it. Artists should be about getting their music out there, not making tons of money and being famous.

why doesnt everyone just stfu? blah blah blah its stealing... blah blah blah its wrong... i download music all the time but you know what... every show i go to i spend at least 30 bucks BESIDE the ticket price... which is usually outrageous to begin with... and the money i spend is on merch so it DOES go to the band... you know why i dont like buying the CDs? you know why there is so much controversy over downloading in the first place? any band on a major label doesnt see shit from the CD sales... the LABEL DOES!!! now ive given bands a place to stay AND gas money personally and i help them with scheduling tours and stuff when they need it so dont you sit there and call me a fucking thief... if you really cared about the bands you would help them rather than just make the label people rich... and yes, i am an unsigned artist as well so i know what it's like on both sides... thats is all

The Voice of Reason says:

This is quite silly really. The argument "the artist should just care about getting their music out there and not making money."

I'm sure your employer will be delighted to know that you will now work for free and that they can exploit you as you so clearly are above "making money."

Grow up.

Downloading music illegally is stealing. Say whatever you want to make yourself feel better about it, but the fact of the matter is you are a petty thief.

Xstyr says:

Yes well it is stealing, but if the music is posted on myspace for listening to, is it really stealing, just being able to open it externaly and not through myspace? I think that is the real question here.

alot of the bands don't really care about it anyway. Bands make most of the money selling songs to films and shit. I don't see it as stealing because it's so easy to access all these programs - The whole downloading thing was bound to happen

Why are those who object to DL music even on here in the first place? Why did you guys search for it? Why did you even click on the link? Stop calling other people theives when you were thinking and probably doing the same thing. It is stealing, but guess what? Most people don't care about " stealing" music.

Ok so I get it we all feel dif about this but the thing is this. I can turn on the radio at any given time of the day and hear any of my fav song. ok so when the radio is done with that artist they move on. I happen to wont to continue listening to that artist on a reg basis. I COULD WHIP OUT THE OLD TAPE PLAYER AND JUST GET IT OFF THE RADIO FREE IS THAT STEELING TO? !!!! HELLO!!! so in my opinion the artist should be glad that after all there glory and time on the radio the loyal listener still wont to hear them. But maybe have jobs to PAY bills and maybe have parnts that can't hand there kids money everytime a new band comes out and such leaving them with no money to buy cd's that will get jacked up the first time u drop them

got it get it got it good!!!!!!!!!!

Downloading from local bands that are trying to start up and going on tour maybe a problem because a lot of people think at a gig... hmm well I will go home and download the myspace tunes and put it on my MP3 player where as if you just listened to the myspace you would want the MP3 to put on your MP3 player so you will have to buy it. But to be honest...... if the band gave a bollocks about people downloading their music they would put some sort of overdub or shorten the song to make it a demo.

PaperPoni says:

I know plenty of wonderful artists who believe that art should never be for sale and give away downloads for free as it is. They make PLENTY of money off of CDs for the people who want them [because I like having my favorite bands CDs], merch and shows. I see no fault in downloadin free music.
And I would be willing to bet that half of you people complaining use limewire. and whether you pay for limewire or not, youre still in the same boat because those musicians dont see a dime of that.
People have been downloading music for free for a while and it hasnt hurt the music industry in the least.
I know my family can hardly afford new clothes let alone money for songs i can get FOR FREE.
So if you have an endless supply of money to spend on music, thats fine. But I know not all of us do.

loneswords says:

ok i usually used to use this kinda things, expecially during these hard economcal periods, even if music in general is foundamental for my life and psiche but...
I just asked myself aboout 1 situation: think about someone doing music (wheter good or not) who's not already known by people and who's not miser anough to always leave those 3-4 tracks on his player but instead, even thought he maybe does 2 jobs to sustain himself and maybe a family, would refresh sometimes his player with some new tracks... just to let himself know by others and to meet new friends...
drastically reducing his listens and visits would just reduce people wonders and chances toward him.
nothing more than a reflection

Band Guy says:

So I guess if people found a way to get into football, basball and hockey stadiums for free and no one could prevent it, then people would just go and never pay. Problem is, pretty soon, there would be no games to watch because no one would bother to work their ass off for years trying to be a great athlete.

Same applies to anything. Downloading music illegally is stealing. Period.
