Google is about to sign a deal with Dish Network, the nation’s second largest satellite TV company, to deliver ads for Dish’s network.

Given Google’s strategy with targeted advertising, Google will attempt to apply the advertising auction model to indexed data about television shows, user demographics and other important metrics.

Google may be on its way to cracking the huge television market, to deliver a very different kind of ad to peoples’ living rooms. According to the WSJ Saturday, Google has begun a test run serving up TV...

Podcasting advertising revenues are expected to nearly quintuple in the next five years, according to a report to be issued this week by eMarketer, Mediaweek reported. That would mean marketers will spend $400 million dollars on podcasts in 2011, which would be only 2% of spending expected this year in the interactive ad market.

James Belcher, the eMarketer analyst, credits most of the ad growth to Google. He expects the company to develop an audio version of AdSense which would allow any podcast producer to include ads in their shows....

YouTube founder Chad Hurley confirmed that his team was working on a revenue-sharing mechanism that would "reward creativity".

The system would be rolled out in a couple of months, he said, and use a mixture of adverts, including short clips shown ahead of the actual film.

The offer applies only to people who own the full copyright of the videos that they are uploading to the YouTube website.

The audience of the YouTube website will not have to put up with overly long "pre-roll" adverts. Mr Hurley said a clip of three seconds length...

Media executives and investors get a pleasant neck ache from watching the skyward path of online advertising revenues. But for those who have to pay for advertising, the trend is bringing some anxiety.

Prices for some online advertising are going up, and some retailers and brand marketers say the big question mark hanging over 2007 is whether publishers will be so emboldened by a strong advertising market that they will raise the prices of ads sharply.

“Everybody’s excited about online advertising,” said Mark Vadon, chief executive...

Just four months ago, marketers were sitting on the sidelines of social networks and watching the traffic surge. Now, advertising on social networks has become a top priority. Yahoo has been seeing soft ad sales in the last few weeks, but Fox Interactive Media isn't experiencing a similar downturn, said Ross Levinsohn, president of the division.

"We're certainly not seeing a slowdown," Levinsohn told the audience Monday, during a morning keynote address at the OMMA conference in New York.

Levinsohn also was bullish about user-created content, arguing that media companies must offer consumers a way to participate. "We've been thinking a lot about platforms," he said. "If you don't build something today ... with...

The two did not disclose the terms of the deal, in which Microsoft will be the exclusive seller and provider of banner advertising and sponsored links for Facebook. The site, a social network that allows users to set up pages about themselves, post pictures and create discussions, attracts a youthful demographic that is highly prized by advertisers.

The deal follows an announcement earlier this month that Google had agreed to pay a minimum of $900 million over three and a half years to the News Corporation to provide search functions and...
