On Monday Steve Jobs is taking the stage at Apple's worldwide developers conference to tell us all about Apple's latest products. He'll probably announced a new Ipod, tell us more about the iPhone etc etc. One announcement I'm almost sure of, however : A far reaching, cloud computing partnership with Google. Both companies have been hinting about it for months, and it makes perfect sense.

Despite shutting operations give years ago, a video-on-demand company, Intertainer, filed a broad lawsuit asserting that Apple, Google and Napster are infringing on a 2005 patent that covers the commercial distribution of audio and video over the Internet. Apple said in a filing on Friday that Google CEO Eric Schmidt has declined stock options offered to new directors and will instead buy shares on the open market. The company said that Schmidt turned down the automatic stock option grant to purchase 30,000 shares, to which new directors are entitled to under a company stock option plan. Instead, Schmidt intends to purchase 10,000 shares of Apple stock on the open market.

Apple and Microsoft are both trying their hand at building communities in different ways - Microsoft for its XBox 360 and PC gaming arm and Apple in its efforts to build community into the latest OS X, Leopard.
Microsoft got the ball rolling with its XNA programming framework for making XBox games aimed at amateur and student programmers. The product allows you to compile code to run on PCs and the Xbox360 as well as share your work with others in the same network.

Apple Computer has abandoned a high-profile legal effort to unmask whoever leaked details about a still-unreleased music accessory.
The company's deadline to continue a legal battle to find out who leaked the information to independent online journalists has passed, and Apple acknowledged in a brief court filing this week that it will not take its fight to the California Supreme Court.
