Rick Schwartz just sold CNN the domain iReport.com for $750,000. Schwartz bought the domain in 1997 for "$70 to $100," he told Silicon Alley Insider. This is an example of what can happen when a large company realizes the value of a generic domain and a seller is not in a hurry to sell.

The outspoken Schwartz, the self-proclaimed “Domain King”, is known for his bullish view on domain names and for creating the popular T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domain conferences.

Another company has jumped on the user generated content bandwagon. "As part of an effort to incorporate more user-generated content in its news reports, CNN said Monday that it has created a Web site where viewers can send in video and audio clips pertaining to breaking news."

In April alone, three video companies got $30 million in funding. But with the number of services now at a staggering 173, including 85 that host and share videos, investors are starting to worry; now Two Time Warner sites are making serious moves into online video.
