GMail has gained IMAP support, one of the most requested features for Google's web-based e-mail service. More than storage space or other features, free web-based IMAP access pushes GMail over the top when compared to offerings from Yahoo, Microsoft and most other web-based e-mail services.

With IMAP, users can now access their email via a desktop application like Outlook or Thunderbird, read emails, make changes, delete, and have the changes made across platforms. So if you now log into your Gmail account, the message which you read in...

In the past few days, there have been multiple disclosures of security vulnerabilities in a wide range of Google products, including a persistent e-mail theft issue affecting the widely used GMail service.

The unpatched GMail bug is particularly nasty because of the way the exploit works without any user action and the fact that it’s difficult for the average GMail user to know that e-mails are being stolen.

The victim visits a page while being logged into GMail. Upon execution, the page performs a multipart/form-data POST to one of...

Gmail seems completely down. I get “Information is temporarily unavailable.” When I try to log into gmail directly I get a red “loading” box at the top right. Sometimes I get a pop up telling me to try again in a few seconds.

Even on the customized Google Home Page, the Gmail section just says that the “Information is temporarily unavailable.” So, for all practical purposes.

Gmail bug exposes your mail account to spammers

The exploit takes advantage of the fact that Google puts your details into a JS file. As a result, if you're logged into Gmail and browsing the web, any rogue website can declare the function "google" and then parse all your contacts. The only way to safeguard yourself is to disable Javascript in your browser (or enabled it for trusted sites only) or simply climb into a hole and not browse while logged into Google services like Gmail, Blogger, Orkut, Reader, Calendar, etc.

Google company confirmed Friday that some users of Gmail, its popular email service, had their email accounts wiped out, with messages and contact information being permanently deleted.

The glitch affected about 60 users, who "lost some or all of their email received prior to Dec. 18," Google spokeswoman Courtney Hohne wrote in a prepared statement. "We have extensive safeguards in place to protect email stored with Gmail and we are confident that this is a small and isolated incident."

Hohne declined to comment on what caused the...

Google has finally announced full availability of Gmail to Australians, who will no longer need to scrounge an invite from an existing Gmail user.
