This gave me the chills a bit when I first watched it. So much has happened so quickly and what's to come is truly unknown.

Reportedly concerned with the dissemination of rumors on the Worldwide Web, anyone using the Internet to spread malicious rumors in the Chinese municipality of Chongqing is now subject to a fine of up to 1,000 yuan to 5,000 yuan ($126-633) or even detention of five days or more. The recently-enacted regulations seek to bar Chongqing netizens from using the Internet to make "defamatory comments or remarks, launch personal attacks, or seek to damage reputations online." Facebook has just this morning added an “Election” feature that allows members to search for office candidates for the Senate, House, and Governorship. Students can add them to their list of “Candidates I Support.” Currently, about 1,600 office candidates running for election this November have profiles, which are controlled by the politicians themselves.

China's Internet population has jumped to 123 million at the end of June, consolidating the nation's status as the world's number two after the United States, the government said.
The figure was up 19.4 percent compared with the end of June 2005, government think tank Chinese Internet Network Information Center said in a report posted on its website on Wednesday.
The report said that 77 million Chinese had access to broadband at the end of June.
