The assets of the eight person company have been acquired by Cisco. This follows their acquisition of Five Across, a social networking infrastructure service, two weeks ago. The hope is to use the two company’s technology to help Cisco’s corporate clients build their own social networks, so it isn’t clear whether or not the Tribe service itself will live on.

Tribe.net relaunched yesterday with a new look. The changes include going back to Tribe’s original logo in orange, eradicating the earlier much hated red colored logo. Tribe has also moved over to netvibes like interface where modules can be dragged and dropped.
The employees claim to be taking back the site after a troubled time, rumors of an NBC-Tribe buyout that came to nothing and the return of founder Mark Pincus at the end of August.

Tribe has struggled of late. Like Friendster, it was early to the game, and struggled to find a business model.

hey, this is an informal announcement that as of today jan and the board are gone. i've taken over tribe and you're going to see big changes fast like getting rid of this big stupid masthead and returning tribe to the users where it belongs.
Mark was ousted from his CEO spot back in April and he's not happy with the changes made by the new CEO (a former Pepsi exec).
