MySpace, in an attempt to tap into outside developers (similar to Facebook), is launching its pre-announced developer platform on Feb 5th. Programmers and other companies will be able to develop applications/widgets on top of the MySpace platform, similar to Facebook apps. For now, only the tools are launching...no date yet on when the actual launch of these apps will be. Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe (MySpace founders) have made a very aggressive compensation proposal to owner News Corp for when their contract is up in October. They're asking Peter Chernin and Rupert Murdoch for a 2-year deal worth $50 million total. That comes out to $25 million each, or $12.5 million a year. Plus, the pair want a development fund of $15 million to invest in internet companies. Even though MySpace is probably the most integral part of News Corp's overall corporate strategy.

There has been some kind of rumors that MySpace website is worth 12 billon dollars. That’s a not bad return on Fox’s initial investment of $580 million in the site. Recently Yahoo and Fox updated that yahoo is interested in buying MySpace for 25% of the stock in the combined entity.

Michael Arrington said that the Flektor deal is a smaller deal, in the $10 million to $20 million range. Earlier this month, it was reported that MySpace had acquired image-sharing site Photobucket after a widget-related skirmish between the two. Neither company has formally confirmed that acquisition.

Valleywag claims that MySpace has purchased Photobucket, estimating a deal around $300 million. If true, this might give us a clue as to what really happened just a few weeks ago...
Photobucket has concluded terms of a sale to Myspace, News Corporation's social network. It’ll rely on both algorithms and user rating - basically a combination of Google News and Digg. You’ll remember that Fox acquired the news aggregator NewRoo about a year ago, so it’s taken them a long time to get to the product stage. The feature list, via Terry Heaton:
- MySpace News takes News to a whole new level by dynamically aggregating real-time news and blogs from top sites around the Web

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against MySpace filed by the family of a 13-year-old girl who says she was sexually assaulted by a 19-year-old man she met online.
The $30 million lawsuit accused the site of having no measures to protect children who use it. The lawsuit also named MySpace's parent company, News Corp., and the 19-year-old, whose criminal case has not yet gone to trial.
In dismissing the suit, Judge Sparks said that as an "interactive service", MySpace was protected from materials posted on its site by the Communications...

MySpace currently brings in $25 million a month, and is growing at a rate of 30% each quarter, according to Rupert Murdoch.

Market research firm eMarketer predicted in a report last November that MySpace alone would have $525 million in ad revenue in 2007. The...
