Nielsen/NetRatings dealt the aging Internet-audience metric its latest blow when the company said Tuesday that it would no longer provide page-view rankings for Web sites.

Sony Pictures Entertainment plans to announce on Wednesday that it has acquired Grouper, a Web site featuring videos contributed by users, for $65 million.
The deal marries one of the biggest and most powerful movie studios, which regularly spends more than $100 million on a film, with a Web site that provides free access to short and often inexpensively made videos on topics like pets, sports and music.

Both big corporations and tiny startups are trying to capitalize on the social networking trend, but neither camp has demonstrated a surefire business model. There ’s money and eyeballs coming at these sites from all directions, but because there isn’t much money flowing back out again, some wonder whether we’re in for another bubble.
