According Valleywag, Calacanis' next venture It's a cross between Wikipedia and Google. the new site (called Project X or Kokua) will create more digestible search results for popular queries such as the names of Hollywood stars, and tech products. The pages will be seeded, initially, with content gathered automatically from the web and other sources. But they will be open to contributions by readers.

Two of YouTube's founders stand to divide shares of stock now valued at around $650 million, Web search leader Google Inc. said in a regulatory filing Wednesday detailing the payout from its $1.65 billion acquisition.

Chad Hurley received 694,087 of Google common stock worth around $326 million and Steve Chen received Google common stock valued at a similar amount, including 625,366 shares directly owned and another 68,721 shares held in a trust.

Meebo Gets $9 Million

Meebo announced that over the past three months the company doubled registered users to more than one million, collaborated with leading platforms for distribution and secured $9 million in funding from venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson. TechCrunch is reporting that Jason Calacanis will announce that he has joined Sequoia Capital (today at the SES conference in Chicago) as an 'Entrepreneur in Action'. Jason will take a salary, help review companies pitching for money, and work on his own projects.

Two months ago Sequoia Capital, and a couple other investors, funded a startup called NetPickle, the founders were accused of intellectual property theft by their former employer (Iconix).

Now Gigaom reports both parties have agreed to settle:
Widget-maker Netpickle has been involved in a legal tussle with anti-phishing company Iconix, which is the former employer of Netpickle co-founders Lance Tokuda and Jia Shen. Now both companies say they have reached a tentative settlement.

Google is expected early this week to announce a $1.6 billion deal to acquire YouTube. I guess they are still feeling the pain of loss for the MySpace opportunity (Google could have acquired MySpace a year ago for about $290 million).

The deal, which follows months of negotiations, will underline its financial firepower. However, it also suggests last January’s launch of Google Video — much criticised for its poor organisation — has been a flop.

Like China, India is becoming a must-invest destination for US venture capital firms. Norwest, Kleiner Perkins, and Sequoia Capital are some of the funds that have invested in India and Indian companies. The latest to join the party is Matrix Partners, which has just closed $150 million Matrix India Fund. The new fund is headed by Avnish Bajaj of baazee.com (an auction company bought by eBay) and Rishi Navani, who formerly headed WestBridge Capital Partners that recently merged with Sequoia Capital.
