Microsoft and Yahoo have now officially announced the search deal that has been rumored for long. Through the pact, Bing will become the default search engine on Yahoo, creating a search player with close to 30% market share of search queries, compared with Google's 65%, according to ComScore data.
This will have major repercussions for the online advertising industry, where both Microsoft and Yahoo are strongholds and carry a lot of weight. Likely, it will take months if not years to align these important businesses. As Yahoo CEO Carol...

Yahoo and AOL are close on finalizing a deal that would combine parts of both companies. The deal would bridge Timer Warner's Internet operations with Yahoo by folding the AOL unit into Yahoo. In return, Time Warner would make a cash investment of about 20% of the combined entity, valuing AOL at about $10 billion.
The possible Yahoo-AOL tie-up is part of a threefold plan by Yahoo to present shareholders with an alternative to Microsoft's unsolicited offer. Yahoo would also propose repurchasing billions of dollars of its own shares and is...

Yahoo will soon be allowing third parties to enhance the Yahoo Search experience. The new platform, codenamed “SearchMonkey” and officially called Open Search Platform, will consist of a set of APIs that allow third parties to modify search results on Yahoo by adding images, structured data and additional deep links.
The altered results can contain far more information than the current link and a bit of text from the website. For example, Yelp, one of the launch partners, will include a photo, review information and the address and...

Susan L. Decker, Yahoo’s new president, is putting her stamp on the company in a reorganization of its management ranks that creates a new division responsible for generating the bulk of the company’s revenue.
As the company’s problems mounted, Yahoo shares lost nearly half their value, from a high of more than $43 in January 2006. On Wednesday, shares dipped below a 52-week low of $22.44 before recovering slightly to close at $22.55, up 3 cents.

Yahoo has acquired college sports site Rivals, the terms aren’t being released but the amount is close to the $100; FIM paid $60 million for competitor Scout.com in September 2005.
Rivals.com runs a subscription model that sees 185,000 subscribers pay $9.95 a month for access.

There has been some kind of rumors that MySpace website is worth 12 billon dollars. That’s a not bad return on Fox’s initial investment of $580 million in the site. Recently Yahoo and Fox updated that yahoo is interested in buying MySpace for 25% of the stock in the combined entity.

I wouldn’t be surprised it this deal goes through: Yahoo’s chief dealmaker until recently, Toby Coppel, was appointed the head of Yahoo Europe last month, and Bebo is the strongest in UK, even though it is based in San Francisco. Telegraph reports, though in a very speculative way ("according to Silicon Valley gossip"), that Yahoo is in talks to acquire Bebo and the price may go up to $1 billion. Bebo has seen its fair share of rumors (and suitors) in the last year BT and Viacom among them.
