It begins with a Quicktime file being embedded in a Profile page. If the user "runs" the file (simply visiting the infected page is enough to trigger the attack in most cases), it uses the HREF function to activate some javascript. http://www.apple.com/qu...racks.html

Zango Under Fire From Adult Webmasters

Over the past few days, adult webmasters have been accusing adware maker Zango of 'stealing sales' by means of the following method:

Computer users with Zango's adware on board will pop open a window containing the affiliate merchant's site they happen to be on at the time, except with Zango's own affiliate code in the window. By doing this, Zango claims credit for the sale and the original, rule-following merchant, the one who referred the user there, loses out.

Zango caught in lies about their software on MySpace?

Zango's videos have been found all over MySpace, along with a number of sites pushing Zango videos to MySpace users without disclosing the presence of Zango. Profiles named Zango were found on MySpace and Zango later admitted an employee created the profiles and said it was a "mistake". It looked like at one point that Zango was being pushed out of MySpace, but, alas, that has not turned out to be the case, per Boyd here.

A ring of "Myspace profile edit" sites encourage Myspace users to add their "free videos" to their profiles. What they *don't* mention, is that these videos pop open a box that tries to install Zango Adware when someone visits a profile running these movies. Getting what is likely teenagers to unknowingly distribute this stuff is a new low.
